A pleasant journey to Munnar

A Nilgiri Tahr          As the COVID restrictions turned us into hermits, I had been longing to go on a long road trip. Ergo, I planned a trip to Munnar for three days and two nights. I had booked a small cottage for the first night’s stay and a tree house for the other day. It was a gleeful journey, as we were travelling as a group of four ladies. It was a memorable trip, which gave us many new experiences.   Day 1 :        We had rented a nice car that was suitable for the hilly ride. We chattered about ghosts and such scary encounters with the driver, which kept us excited. Then, we had a delectable  South Indian breakfast in an authentic mess along the way. We commenced our four-hour drive to ‘the land of wild langurs and elephants’. On reaching the town, our first stop was  the Karimutty Waterfalls with a small Eco shop and tea stall. Boarding schools - a review

 In the post pandemic era, the boarding schools are up and running after a long hiatus. While the ministry of education is striving to bring normalcy and a better educational system, recent deaths in boarding schools across the country are agonizing the parents. The number of students committing suicide and lost due to negligence is alarming.  The boarding schools should have a valid license for running a hostel. Though the boarding schools are evidently focused on infrastructure and academics , we often overlook the safety and pastoral care, which should be imbibed in the school's policies. Safety is not only security from external threats but also internal threats like teachers or staffs who mishandle students and situations.  If only had the boarding school in Ponneri responded attentively to the student's health, a 17 year old would now be alive.
