From strangers to friends (part 4)
I geared up for the final day in Kerala eagerly and enjoyed
a healthy breakfast with puttu and banana. When it was finally time to
leave the houseboat, I took pictures to remember the one-of-a-kind experience. Soon
after, we started the next journey while playing our favorite songs and singing in
unison.
After some time, we jumped into party games like 'Have
you ever' and revealed our forbidden love stories. The fun times lasted
until we reached the restaurant for our lunch. The waiting time for the
table was longer than usual since it was Onam, compelling us to check the
nearby shops.
I refuelled my energy with a glass of fruit juice and was pulled in by the assortment of goodies in the bakery. There were my ever-favorite banana chips and potato chips in various flavors. I also decided to grab some jackfruit chips and Kerala's popular chai-time snack called 'vettu cake' for family.
When we returned to the restaurant, we got to enjoy an extravagant lunch and kunafeh for dessert. With a full belly and a happy heart, we set off to the next place in our itinerary. After a short snooze, I woke up to the sight of wild terrains and huge boulders posing like mammoths in the dark.
On reaching the entrance of the Sholayar forest, we started
our hike to the largest waterfall in Kerala, Athirappilly Falls. We stopped on
the way to capture the bird's-eye view of the falls. As we went down further, I
could feel the drizzle of water from the roaring cascades on my skin..
It felt like ages as I stood gazing at the ginormous view of the falls ahead. One thing left to do when we returned was dig into the freshly fried pazham pori and the smoking hot tea. I also bought a few souvenirs from the local shops to take home.
Even though the weather was brumal on our way back, I could
feel the warm presence of the people near me. The moving scenery of the
forest soon wrapped me into a peaceful slumber. As our journey approached the
end, everyone started sharing how much they enjoyed the trip in their own words..
I held back until dinner and bid a fond farewell to my new friends. Each one of us took turns talking about our personal
experiences and how we adored each other despite meeting for the first time. As
it was time to part ways, I was moved by how a bunch of strangers became
friends in a short time!
I took my time to give hugs and reminisce about the trip with the people I had grown closer to. Standing on the empty streets at midnight, we had so much to cackle about the time we spent together. At last, I returned home happily knowing that sometimes people we love can become strangers and strangers can turn into people we love.
